During World War II, the Soviet Union constructed military airfields using standardized concrete slabs for rapid deployment and durability. One of the common types was the hexagonal concrete slab (1.5m), which provided a stable surface for aircraft operations while allowing for easy replacement of damaged sections.

This diorama was painted with acrylics and weathered using pigments and enamels to create a realistic aged effect.

These slabs were an alternative to the later PAG-14 rectangular airfield slabs used extensively in the Cold War era. The hexagonal pattern allowed for strong interlocking, reducing shifting under heavy aircraft loads. They were often placed over compacted soil or gravel and could withstand the harsh conditions of the Eastern Front.
