Handcrafted 1/72 scale Soviet airfield display base, inspired by the characteristic PAG-14 prefabricated concrete slab surfaces used on Soviet and Eastern Bloc military airfields.
The base measures 25 x 25 cm (9.84 x 9.84 in) and features individually weathered concrete sections, expansion joints, oil and operational staining, a yellow guidance line and a grass verge. It also includes 1/72 scale ground equipment and airfield accessories, as shown in the photos, giving the base a complete and realistic operational appearance.
The real PAG-14 was a heavy reinforced-concrete aerodrome slab measuring approximately 6 x 2 metres, specifically designed for prefabricated airfield pavements.
This style of base is ideal for displaying a wide range of Cold War and later Soviet/Russian aircraft, including:
For larger aircraft such as the Su-24, Su-27 or MiG-31, the 25 x 25 cm base can still be used as a compact display, although the aircraft will naturally occupy most of the available area.
Each base is hand-painted and weathered, so small variations are part of the handmade character of the piece. It is designed as a ready-to-use display: simply add your finished 1/72 aircraft.
A suitable display for Soviet aviation subjects from the Cold War through the late Soviet/Russian period, particularly MiG and Sukhoi models
